How to Prepare for your Maternity Shoot | College Station Newborn Photographer
Mamas, I know it’s hard to prepare for a photoshoot. I thought I’d put together a few tips for preparing for your maternity shoot.
Schedule your session early! If you’re booking with me I’d suggest contacting me around 15-25 weeks. I like to do maternity shoots between 30 and 35 weeks. You will be far enough along to show off your cute bump, but will be more comfortable than later in your pregnancy. Of course, we can make exceptions if we need to.
Get your nails done a few days before the shoot. Your hands will be in every photo so we want them looking fabulous!
Get as much rest as possible the night before. You might laugh at this suggestion if sleep is a struggle, but at least try! ;)
Items you may want to bring with you: ultrasound photos, extra jewelry, and heirloom/nostalgic items. Some mamas like to bring the whole family and some want it to be just them. There’s no right or wrong here!
What to wear! For my style of shooting I love dresses! You want to choose something that will give you a flattering silhouette. I love dresses that are floor length (but certainly doesn’t have to be!) and are tight at the top of the belly and flare out, allowing for movement. Avoid darks colors like black or navy blue, as these hide your bump. Your undergarments matter… make sure that bra straps will be hidden and undergarments won’t produce lines that show under tight clothing. I might have to do a whole blog on maternity wardrobe planning. :)
Chat with your photographer about your ideas! Tell them what you love about your appearance and what you’re insecure about. Personally, I have a questionnaire for clients to fill out. You can find it here (and I’ll send it to you at booking as well!): Maternity Questionnaire After I receive the response we can chat about your session.
