April is Autism Awareness Month!
To celebrate our friends with autism and raise awareness I’m doing a special photoshoot giveaway for those in the Bryan/College Station and surrounding areas!!! Details will be below, but first…
Why is Autism Awareness Month important to me?
Here’s a little back story! Throughout college and right after I worked at several different jobs with children who had autism… an after school program, a special education classroom, and a therapy clinic. I’ve worked with many, many kids that are diagnosed with ASD. These experiences changed me as a person, for the better. I was able to see the unique abilities and personalities of each child. I was able to see them work incredibly hard to achieve things that neurotypical people don’t think twice about. I watched kids achieve goals and therapists and teachers cry tears of happy joy for them. I saw the hard moments and I saw the beauty. I was able to see (and be) a part of our community that was (and is) making strides to support families, help kids gain skills and achieve goals, and promote acceptance for those we typically, but wrongly, see as so different than us.
Because I have this experience, plus a passion in my heart for the autism community, I am able to adjust my standard shooting practices to beautifully photograph those with autism, other special needs, and their families. In honor of Autism Awareness Month I want to bless two families with beautiful memories! Read on for details!
Here’s how it works:
You get to nominate who you think should win!
There will be TWO winners selected (one from each category):
1) Someone that has an immediate family member diagnosed with Autism or another disability (child, brother, sister, parent)
2) Someone that works with people diagnosed with Autism. Ie., occupational therapist, ABA therapist, physical therapist, special education teacher, etc.
Nominating someone is SO easy! Just fill out this form and the winners will be selected randomly on April 30th. You can nominate one person for each category. Simply fill out and submit the form twice.
On top of this, if I get TEN nominations, I will donate 15% of the profits from my spring mini sessions to an organization that promotes autism acceptance and provides resources to families (still in the process of deciding the specific organization). Let’s do this people! Start nominating!!!
