Questions to Ask When Booking a Photographer (part 1) | College Station Birth & Newborn Photographer

Over the last several years I have been blessed with some super amazing (!!!) family, maternity, newborn, and birth photography clients in the BCS area and I’m so thankful that they’ve chosen me! Today I’m sharing a few questions to ask yourself (+ potential photographer!) when trying to pick a photographer that is just right for you! Of course, if you’re in the Bryan College Station area, I totally think I’m the one for you! ;)

  • This one is simple… do you like their images? Do their images catch your eye when you’re scrolling through your Instagram or Facebook feed?

  • Do you connect with their “About Me” section, their captions, blog posts, etc.? You don’t have to 100% relate to everything, but in general, do you feel like you “jive” with them? If you’re not sure, then just reach out to them! Most photographers would LOVE to chat with you via text, fb, instagram, email, phone call, video chat… the options are endless! There is no reason why you can’t get to know + get comfortable with your photographer before booking. Most of us are so happy (seriously!) to get to know you!

  • Do they specialize in the type of photography you’re looking for? There are so many specialties within the photography industry, including families, seniors, newborns, maternity, birth, milestones, etc. It’s a good idea to choose a photographer that has honed in on just a few specialties. This shows that they have grown their skills in these areas and have found what they love!

  • Do they have good reviews? This could be on Facebook, Google, their website, or by word of mouth. Don’t be shy either! Ask them for references! Look for or ask for references from parents that had similar needs to what you have. For example, if you’re a mom with young kids and are worried about them being shy, rambunctious, not cooperative, not having enough time, etc., you can ask for or look for reviews from moms who also have young kids. Other examples are… reviews from newborn mamas, reviews from families that have a member with special (or different) needs, reviews from teenage mamas, etc.

  • Do they have availability around your due date or when you are wanting to book your shoot? I’d suggest booking your photographer at least a few months in advance. This ensures that you have a spot on their calendar + gives you time to plan your shoot and get to know your photographer better.
