All About the Details! | College Station Newborn Photographer
As a photographer, I love, love, love capturing those sweet newborn details. I’m going to share a bit of info about what shots I take, what equipment I use, settings, and why I love these sweet, sweet photos!! ♥
I shoot all of my newborn detail shots with a Nikkor 105 mm f/2.8, but you could certainly use other lenses with a low aperture. Low aperture (around 2.8) creates a nice foreground and background blur, which allows us to get just those sweet details in focus. I typically shoot around f/2.8-3.2 for these shots, but my preference is f/2.8. Do you see how in the photo directly below, the nose and lips are in focus, but not the eye? That’s what we want- to focus on each detail separately (or in this case 2 details because they are on the same plane).
Now, those were the technicalities! If you want to know more about settings/details, just ask! Here’s why I love detail shots. Mamas are so busy feeding, changing, burping, washing, cleaning, working, etc + this season goes SO fast. Like, so so fast! I want to capture these unique details so that mama never forgets the tiny, flaky toes. The soft & shiny hair. The way they held their hands on their chest. Their hair whorl. Or the creases in their feet. All the sweet & tiny things.
Now! Here is a list of the shots I like to take.
Nose + lips. Just lips. Ear. Eyelashes. Hair on the top/front of head. Hair on back of head. Hands. Feet (multiple angles— bottom of feet, top down on toes, crossed, etc. Basically, all. the. things. And there you have it, a little bit about how I take those precious detail shots!
